Make sure that what you’re buying is going to last you a long time. It has to be able to take the everyday knocks and bumps that headphones can take while in your travel bag, around your neck and especially around your kids. Countless times I’ve had headphones bent by my toddlers. Think about how the wires are wrapped up and bent etc. Headphones can cost a lot of dough, so spend your money wisely as you don’t want to be buying twice. To do this, make sure you buy a decent brand of headphones, read the reviews on Amazon and to have in mind that even the more expensive models are not designed for their durability. Some are designed for the safe use in a studio and not on public transport or in the gym.

Damn these headphone pack a punch when it comes to bass! If you do go for the JVC HA-SZ2k then be prepared to replace the stock pads as they are pants! But once you have some new pads, this bass headphone is the ultimate in value for money. Definitely the headphones worth considering if you’re on a budget but still want crisp heavy bass tones and a well built product.
The JVC HA-SZ2000 uses a dual driver system with a 55mm driver for the bass, followed up with a 30mm driver for the rest of the sound profile. The woofer that the SZ2k has routes the sound it through a series of brass chambers which help amplify and condition the bass from the tunes you’re listening to. The 30mm driver is pretty cool as well as it has a CNT (carbon nano-tube driver) (or CNT for short). This basically means that it produces a vibration by rapidly heating and cooling the driver and the air around it. This stimulates the the air molecules and produces air vibrations, which in turn produces even more quality to sound and volume characteristics.
What’s the bass like on the JVC SZ2k?
The bass is hard hitting and punchy. The bass is also a bit too tight that impactful to the extent that the percussive bass notes leaves a very small air of silence right after the bass note landing. This is just me being picky. Other than this, the bass is awesome, especially for the price!

JVC is known for their relativity affordable products. However, this pair of headphones is priced in the upper end of the middle tier products. It’s specs are standard for what you would expect. Fostex makes exceptional professional grade headphones that simply doesn’t disappoint. It’s price point is very high as you would expect from a pair of pro headphones, so you would only want to buy them if there was some specific purpose in mind. You might be a DJ or producer that requires a certain grade of audio playback in headphones. Its specs such as Aluminum and magnesium materials suggest it has the strong sound quality to match its price point. It’s a good and dependable for sure. There are certainly cheaper options on the market, but this is out there for those interested in buying a “money no issue” bass headphone.
This model from Fostex is one of the most powerful headphones on the market and is pretty impressive when it comes to providing the best bass sounds. They are so powerful that its like having a pair of huge subwoofers glued to your ears.
The Fostex are purely for the true audiophile with way too much money to spend on audio equipment. It’s also ideal for professional DJs and radio broadcasters, as they are equipped with a fully integrated neodymium magnetic circuit that provides you with an extremely wide dynamic range in sound.
They are made from Japanese Cherry Birch wood which is then sprayed and finished with Urushi lacquer to give it that slick look. The ear pads are super comfortable and are an absolute joy to have round your ears. This model has 2 inch dynamic drivers that produce studio / theatre like quality sound. It’s so crisp and precise that it blew my mind with the vividness of the sound. I highly recommend the TH900s if you don’t mind spending a small fortune of a pair of headphones. For me though, I’d rather spend $400 on a good pair of bass headphones as these are professional grade headphones.
